Young / Old

Young and old at the edge of Lac Leman : Nyon, CH

No, it isn't 2 Things Challenge, but it could be. On the left, ancient Roman columns and on the right, a young couple enjoying a picnic with Lake Geneva (Lac Leman) in the background.

Aventicum

Roman artifacts are a must-see at the museum in Avenches/Aventicum, CH

About an hour and a half north of Geneva on the A1 autoroute, there lies a picturesque little town called Avenches. In ancient times, it was known as Aventicum and was the Roman capital of Helvetia. We went and poked around a bit the last weekend my sister was here and enjoyed some beautiful artifacts and ruins, as well as a bit of the medieval city that grew up around this Roman town that was a hub on the road between Italy and England. We'll definitely be going back in the spring, when the weather is warmer and the flowers are in bloom. To enjoy a few more pictures of this Roman capital, visit my Picasa Web Album.

Italian Arches

Roman Arch : Aosta, Italy

The city of Aosta, Italy, dates back to the 25 B.C. and evidence of its Roman origins can still be seen in the old city walls and arches. Arches continue to be a prominent feature in architecture. Here are just a few.
