2 Things Challenge: Ugly / Pretty

Urban tagging... ugly or pretty? : Martigny, CH

This week's 2 Things Challenge is Ugly / Pretty. I snapped these photos in Martigny, Switzerland, last Sunday. I liked the juxtaposition of the beauty of the Alps and the ambiguity of urban tagging.

I would actually classify this as a mural, rather than just graffiti or urban tagging. At least it's whole and the design style is the same all throughout. Of course, it still doesn't quite match its majestic background.

Say what you will, but those are some talented taggers.

The better talent, though, is your eye for these two photos. The top one is a real show-stopper.

I'm not entirely sure this was just tagging. It was a pretty nice mural on that entire wall. I thought it looked great! Of course, the Alps also look stunning with the snow.

WV: sting.

Hilda: I probably would, too, if it hadn't been in a part of town that was highly industrial and rundown. I think that's why I chose "tagging" rather than "graffiti." Still, it's a fine line.

Debi: If I have to choose between one or the other, I'd take tagging and murals any day over graffiti. At least there's some semblance of creativity involved! Thanks for the compliments on the photo composition.

Maya: I wasn't too keen on the green faces. Too reminiscent of the blue avatars. Bleh. Still, as I've said, it was better than graffiti.

P.S. I have no clue what's up with my blog, but I'll talk to it. That WV is unacceptable.

Pretty scenery! but the graffiti, I'm, not so sure about. Mural have their place. But when you have that kind of scenery in the background, the graffiti, mural, tagging, whatever, detracts from the experience. Just my opinion of course.

Great entry. Regardless of the talent of the tagger/painter, why here?
