The Ballroom

Dancing at the Century Ballroom : Capitol Hill : Seattle, WA

Our last night in Seattle, we went to Capitol Hill and enjoyed an evening of ballroom dancing at The Century Ballroom. It's nice to know there are still places where the dancing is elegant and you can have a conversation without having to shout until you're hoarse.

Thanks to all of our friends who made our visit to Seattle so lovely, and especially to Chris and Rachel and The Baron for hosting us!

E = Exciting!

E = Exciting! : Geneva, CH

This photo was taken as part of an effort to practice using aperture (A) priority on my camera and adjusting the polarizing filter on my lens. Neither really worked like I wanted, but it's still a worthwhile photo. This is an office building on the Avenue Appia behind the International Committee of the Red Cross/Red Crescent in Geneva.

100 Friends and Family: Dan

Dan : Seattle, WA

I took a few random pictures of folks at the joint birthday celebration. They were your typical friends-at-an-event kind of pictures. This one of friend Dan really stood out, though. I love the colors.

Réflexion en Rouge

Réflexion en Rouge : Ferney-Voltaire, FR

I can't remember what I was shooting when I took this (I think it was this), but I was looking out of the kitchen window and when I looked down, I noticed the tree in the garden reflected in the red glass of the table. Kind of cool, huh?

2 Things Challenge: Ugly / Pretty

Urban tagging... ugly or pretty? : Martigny, CH

This week's 2 Things Challenge is Ugly / Pretty. I snapped these photos in Martigny, Switzerland, last Sunday. I liked the juxtaposition of the beauty of the Alps and the ambiguity of urban tagging.

Want to join in the fun? Visit 2 Things Challenge. Next week's two words are: Animal / Vegetable.

Sunset Gothic

Sunset : Lausanne Cathedral : Lausanne, CH

This red door caught my eye and shouted out to be photographed, but the treat in this photo is the beginning of that evening's sunset caught in the cathedral window.

Dwarfed

Dwarf Among Giants : Geneva, CH

Just another shot from around campus. This red maple over the crest of the hill caught my eye and begged to be photographed.

Fall Fireworks

Fiery! : Geneva, CH

It's November 1. Let's try this again and see if I can get it going and stick with it. Just a couple of pictures of the fall colors around the place where I work.

Fall Fireworks : Geneva, CH

I'm still on a quest for a new camera. I think I've narrowed it down to the Nikon D5000. The biggest selling point? Pivoting LCD screen. That's one of my secrets to many of my photos: the ability to get down low without lying on the ground and still being able to see what I'm shooting. Any thoughts out there about my potential equipment choice?

Musée Metropolitan

Montmartre Metro : Paris, FR

I'm making a bit of a stretch with the title and paying homage to Paris as a city of world-renowned museums and art and an equally well-known transit system, the Paris Metro. Today's photos feature art that can only be enjoyed if you're willing to climb the stairs from the depths of Paris' deepest Metro station to the exit up top at Montmartre. If we'd taken the elevator, we would have missed these. Fortunately (??), the elevator was closed for maintenance, so we had to hoof it. I'm glad we had no choice.

Window & Shop Scenes

L'Odeonie Rouge : Paris, FR

Just a few things I saw around Paris in windows and shops. I'm told there's really good window shopping in other parts of Paris. Next trip, I suppose!

Seens in a Paris Café

Tables and chairs : La Rotonda : Paris, FR

This past weekend was spent in Paris, the City of Lights. Each morning, we had breakfast at one of the cafes on the Montparnasse. These are "seens" in a Paris café.

French Breakfast : Bread, croissant, tea, orange juice. Oh, and a bee on my bread...

Fêtes de Genève

Ferris wheel at the opening of Fêtes de Genève : Geneva, CH

As a run up to Swiss Confederation Day (August 8), Geneva hosts a party called Fêtes de Genève. Walking back to the carpark the other evening, there was this ferris wheel set up at the foot of the Pont du Mont Blanc. The light was perfect and I snapped a few pictures.

Ferris wheel fun : Geneva, CH

And now, for the first time in months, I'm caught up on my blog! Can't say that will last long, though. I'm going to Paris this weekend and leaving the laptop home. Oh well.

Poppies

Poppies and a hovering bee

Not too far from Dr Lala's, and on the way to work, is a field of wheat and poppies. I left for work a little early this morning and was able to capture a couple of good pictures. Hard to do, though, in dress pants and dress shoes, but I managed!
