Puycelci

Puycelci, FR: Les Plus Beaux Villages de France

We decided to get away for a couple of days. Maya spent a week last year in the French village of Puycelci in Tarn, not far from Toulouse. She was so charmed by it, she wanted to go back and show me the area. Puycelci is typical of hilltop villages all over France, but where many have become rundown and are unvisited, this little village has experienced a revival thanks to the entrepreneurial hardwork of owner and chef Dorothy Alexander. L'Ancienne Auberge sits at the center of this medieval village and features a Michelin-starred restaurant. We were there one week before their official opening, but still enjoyed fabulous meals prepared by her cook, Jean-Denis. If you want to get away for a few days, check out Puycelci and the surrounding areas. Well worth the six hour drive!

Doors of Tallinn

No. 7 : Tallinn, EE

One of the beautiful features in Tallinn's Old Town are the colorful doors and detail. Here are a few examples.

Fuerteventura : Part IV

 Weathered

Doors and windows on buildings and homes in Tuineje, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain.

Also, a note of congratulations to friend Peter in Paris whose photo blog, Peter's Paris, was chosen by Blogger last Friday as a blog of note. If you have a chance to visit Paris, Peter is a lovely guide. Last summer, several of us had the opportunity to meet up with him in the City of Lights and enjoyed a day of wonderful photography and backstreet touristing with this gentle giant. In fact, here's a great photo of Peter and Virginia at the top of the Sacre Coeur. Congrats, Peter!

Sunset Gothic

Sunset : Lausanne Cathedral : Lausanne, CH

This red door caught my eye and shouted out to be photographed, but the treat in this photo is the beginning of that evening's sunset caught in the cathedral window.

Notre-Dame Detail

Niche : Notre Dame : Paris, FR

I have a bazillion pictures of Notre Dame. These two are the first of many you'll likely see over the next week or so. I just liked these in particular for the detail they show.

Blue Doors of Montmartre

Blue doors in Montmartre : Paris, FR

While we were in Paris, we hung out with Virginia of Birmingham Daily Photo and Paris Through My Eyes and Peter of Peter's Paris. Peter was a wonderful host and tour guide. We spent the better part of the day in the famed 18th arrondissement of Montmartre and took loads of pictures. One thing that stood out for me were the blue doors.

Doors and Other Details

Neptune on a Carved Door : Altstadt Genf : Geneva, CH

One of the things I enjoy about my wanderings around the cities of Europe are all of the doors. Alstadt Genf is no different in the number of carved, wooden doors you'll find and delight in. My favorite was the Neptune door.

We also stumbled across some lovely mosaics. We couldn't find any information on the mosaics themselves, which are across from City Hall, but we did find information about the cannons. Odd, no?
