From the Archives: USAF Memorial

United States Air Force Memorial : Arlington, VA

One of the newer monuments and memorials near Washington, D.C., is the United States Air Force Memorial. When they first put it up, I didn't like it. At all. But, I spent some time with it and it grew on me. Here's a photo from my archives of this memorial to our men and women serving in the USAF.

Is this looking through something? Is that plane attached to it? Interesting shot!

Yes. It's a glass panel that's been etched with an illustration of an F-16. You can see the memorial through the glass behind it. I tilted the camera so I could fit the memorial in and include the etching. At the time I took it, I didn't like the result and didn't use it. But, culling through my archives more than two years later, I've decided it's not a bad picture.

I share your sentiment about the memorial. It is striking though, and I think my main beef with it is the not-as-pretty-as-the-National-Mall locale. I've taken some great photos at the memorial regardless. I ought to get back there. Superb shot!
