You Must Not Be French

Definitely NOT French! They showed up before 8:00 a.m.--unheard of in France!

The French and France are notorious among Europeans for being overly bureaucratic and taking forever to finish a project. The prevailing joke is, if you're having work done on your property that would normally take two weeks, figure it will take 12. If you're lucky. For reasons unknown to us, someone decided to cut down an otherwise perfectly healthy, but very large tree in the garden of our apartment complex. While that's distressing by itself, the weirdest part was, the workers taking down the tree showed up the other morning to begin hauling away the tree debris BEFORE 8:00. On the day they took down the tree, Maya reported that the workers took very short coffee breaks and practically worked through lunch. All we can surmise is, they must not be French!

Our once glorious tree is no more. Boo. : Ferney-Voltaire, FR

Apologies for the late comment. In England, when tree cutting takes place early and quickly, it's because they think the Council will put a preservation order on the tree if given half a chance. Get it all done before the Council offices open, and you are unlikely to be stopped.
Also, sorry about your tree.
