Fare thee well, Chillon

Late afternoon sun :  Château de Chillon : Montreux, CH

Time to move on to other topics, like snowshoeing and everyone's favorite black Russian terrier, Caffrey! I have many more photos of Château de Chillon, but these are the last I'll post about Switzerland's most famous château. I'm sure I'll be going back at some point, but for now, fare thee well!

Petit RenFair

Men of Action : Château de Chillon : Montreux, CH

I've never been to a renaissance faire in the U.S., though I know they're quite popular. Château de Chillon hosts its own version in December and includes costumed artisans and tradespeople, servants and priests, and a host of other folk enjoying the opportunity to dress up and play renaissance or medieval for a few weeks. These are just a few of many.

Windows of Chillon

Sunbeams :  Château de Chillon : Montreux, CH

Château de Chillon has lots of windows. These are just a few of the many opportunities to look out on other parts of the castle or to enjoy views of Lake Geneva and the Alps.

Château de Chillon

Château de Chillon on the banks of Lac Leman : Montreux, CH

When friends come to visit, as happened earlier this month, it's quick and easy to take them to the Château de Chillon. It's especially fun in December, because the castle hosts a medieval festival complete with food and crafts, costumed re-enactors, and courtyard performers playing period instruments or tossing and spinning balls of fire. Because we had another engagement later in the evening, we couldn't stay for the flame throwers, but we did manage a few fun hours wondering around the castle made famous by Lord Byron. The next few days will feature photos from Switzerland's most visited site.
