Another gorgeous sunset this evening. It was an hour earlier, though, as we've set our clocks back an hour and switched from Central European Summer Time back to just plain old Time.

Alpages a la Gruyères

This time of year in the Alps of Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, and Germany, is the end of the grazing season for the cattle. Many of the villages and towns put together small parades or larger festivals celebrating the return of the cows--and in some places, the sheep and goats, too--from the mountains and hillsides. In French, it's called des Alpages. In German, it's called the Almabtrieb. I just call it "FUN!" Today, we went to Gruyères and had to pull onto the shoulder to let the cows and their herders by. It's November 1. Let's try this again and see if I can get it going and stick with it. Just a couple of pictures of the fall colors around the place where I work.

I'm still on a quest for a new camera. I think I've narrowed it down to the Nikon D5000. The biggest selling point? Pivoting LCD screen. That's one of my secrets to many of my photos: the ability to get down low without lying on the ground and still being able to see what I'm shooting. Any thoughts out there about my potential equipment choice?
