The Bells! The Bells!

Gargoyle on Notre Dame with the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur in the background : Paris, FR

The last time I was in Paris, I was shooting with my little point-and-shoot Canon. I didn't have my tripod with me, so my photos of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris (Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris) turned out less than optimal. In fact, they were downright crap. This time around, I had my new Nikon and my tripod, so my photos of Notre Dame turned out considerably better and my faith in my ability to shoot the interiors of cavernous cathedrals was restored. This time around, I also took the stairs to the top of the cathedral and enjoyed some fantastic views of Paris. Go to my Picasa Web Albums to see more gargoyles and flying buttresses. Come back tomorrow and see my interior shots.

Great title for what the top one looks like he might be saying. :) Love the gargoyles.

These are awesome. I can almost feel a hunchback standing behind me.

Brings back memories of my only trip to Paris. We went about the same time of the year and it was rather chilly up there, but worth the climb.

Janet, I have loved your Paris series of photos. I am inspired to find unique angles of the city when I visit in July. Merci!

Love these guys. The bell tower tour was my favorite to view the city and these gargoyles.

Love your gargoyle series. Have never made the climb up myself, so this was a real education. Thanks.

L.A. The gargoyles rock. And if you listen closely enough, that's what they're saying!

James: Thank you. I'm glad you're enjoying these.

NG: Well, given how narrow the stairs are, you can pretend you're a hunchback.

Debi: They're total tourist shots. Sadly, I'm not ashamed of that. I wonder if this means I need to turn in my photographer's membership card?

Larry: It was cold that day, too, but the sun came out for a bit and made the climb worth it.

Mr. J: Paris will be lovely in July, I'm sure. Crowded. But lovely. Glad you've been enjoying these photos.

Rob: I think in the Disney adaptation of the "Hunchback", these guys were named Victor and Hugo, but I'd have to check. And I agree: cool vantage point from here!

Carolyn: If you ever get back to Paris, you have to make the climb. Although, I think the better climb is the one to the top of the Sacre Coeur. Lovely views from up there.

These shots are great! I think I almost prefer this view to the one from the top of the Sacré-Cœur.
