Look!

Nouveau LOOK : Annecy, FR

One of the places we went while my sister was here was Annecy, France. This quaint little town is on the road to Albertville, France, host of the 1992 Winter Olympics. Currently, it is one of three finalists, along with Munich, Germany, and Pyeongchang, South Korea, veying to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. Annecy lies on Lac d'Annecy, about 35 km (22 miles) south of Geneva in the Haute-Savoie region. As we were walking through the older part of town, I noticed this doorway. Looking a little closer, I was delighted by this sign.

What a beautiful town. Those lovely soft coloured walls and what a find - the sign through the door. Just love this post and hope Annecy wins for 2018.

Beautiful photographs.

"Maybe while you're there, we could make a trip and all go photowalking together... Hm..."

"That sounds like fun!"

Who knew France could look so much like New Mexico? Well, except for that wet stuff.

Yeah, me too. Great minds...

Annecy is vying for the Olympics? Interesting!

I love these surprises.

To answer your question: we were in Avenches in 2007. I'm looking forward to your photos.

Jilly: The older parts of Annecy are lovely. Finding the sign was a treat!

James: Thank you. It's no Paris, by any stretch, but it has some lovely parts and hosts an Alpage festival every fall that's quite fun. As for Paris, we'll play it by ear...

NG: Janeen said she was going to tell people she'd made it to Venice, because of the canal. I suppose Annecy could be a stand-in for many places, eh?

Maya: I thought that was interesting, too. I mean, they're so close to Albertville, I can't imagine the French government building entirely new facilities to host an Olympics 10 miles down the road from the last place they held one. Plus, this area is littered with past Olympic venues--Albertville, Chamonix, St. Moritz, Grenoble, Cortina, and Turin. And that's just France, Italy, and Switzerland. There have been games in Austria and Germany as well. I have a feeling South Korea will be the next host in 2018.
