Demarcation

The French-Swiss Border : Border Markers 44 and 45 : Ferney-Voltaire, FR and Bossy, CH

The town of Ferney-Voltaire is right on the Swiss-French border and surrounded by countryside. The area is crisscrossed by walking paths that take you away from the main roads and into the farmland and vineyards of Switzerland. If the weather is nice after work, a little exercise is in order before dinner. As you approach the boundary markers for France and Switzerland, this is what the path looks like. In the foreground, France. The middle background, Switzerland. It's sort of like that joke in so many parts of the United States: you can tell when you've crossed from one state into another, because the quality of the roads change. Same thing here. The Swiss paths are definitely nicer!

I'm so glad we found these paths. It makes going for a walk much nicer!

Does that mean the Swiss walk far more than the French? I always thought the more traversed (yeah like I traverse enough to know) would me cleaner.

Maya: I agree!

Cele: Good question. I don't know definitively, but based on my unscientific observations, it would seem they do. The Swiss paths we've walked are generally fairly clean and smooth, like the ones in the top half of the picture. Unlike the French paths, which really don't exist.
