5 months

Caffrey and Christy : Geneva, CH

Some of you may recall pictures a few months ago of friends Erik and Christy and their new puppy, Caffrey. At the time, Caffrey was about seven weeks old. Now, he's five months old and Christy doesn't pick him up to cuddle on her shoulder like she did in the first picture I posted of them here.

"Puppy" is a loose term here...

Caffrey visited the vet a couple of days ago and weighed in at nearly 28 kilos. That's nearly 60 lbs! The term "puppy" is used loosely with this sweet, docile dog.

Caffrey's First Snowshoeing Adventure

...and mine, too. Erik and Christy invited us to go snowshoeing with them the last weekend friend Irene was in town. This was Caffrey's first time out and we all had a blast! I think I've found a winter activity I could enjoy.

100 Friends: Erik and Christy

Friends Erik and Christy with the newest member of their family,
a black Russian terrier named Caffrey : Winterthur, CH

On Sunday, we were asked to go with friends Erik and Christy to Winterthur to visit a breeder of black Russian terriers. The breeder is Swiss-German and Erik was worried his military German wouldn't cut muster, so Maya and I went along to act as interpreters. The Russian terrier is a huge--and I mean HUGE--dog, but Erik and Christy wanted a large dog and that's what they're going to get in Caffrey. (They're name for the dog. Personally, I was trying to convince them to go with Attila Langley Tweety--an homage to the dog's size and a place name based on where Erik and Christy use to live.

It came down to two puppies and when this one picked up the roll of
toilet paper, Erik and Christy knew they'd found their pet!

Big Dog, Little Dog

Heel : Versoix, CH

This morning, friends Erik and Christy called to see if we wanted to take Charlie and go for a walk in the Versoix Forest with them and their dog, Caffrey. We jumped at the chance, because Charlie needs to be socialized and comfortable spending time with other dogs (another issue with rescue dogs). He did really well and we all had a blast. I didn't have my big camera with me, but I did have my Apple iPod Touch, so I snapped a few photos. (This week, I'm hoping to get out with the camera and do some real photography again, because there's more to life than just Charlie! Of course, it would help if the weather was more cooperative...)

Fare thee well, Chillon

Late afternoon sun :  Château de Chillon : Montreux, CH

Time to move on to other topics, like snowshoeing and everyone's favorite black Russian terrier, Caffrey! I have many more photos of Château de Chillon, but these are the last I'll post about Switzerland's most famous château. I'm sure I'll be going back at some point, but for now, fare thee well!

Goodbye grey skies, hello blue...

Happy Days Diner : Versoix, CH

Before going to the turkey farm in Crozet on Saturday, we started the day with my boss, Faith, and friend Erik (Caffrey's human) at Happy Day's Diner in Versoix, CH. The diner claims to feature an American menu complete with such Americanisms as A&W Root Beer, real bacon and eggs, and fluffy pancakes. Maya and Faith had scrambled eggs and toast, Erik had a hamburger, and I tried the French toast. The food left a little bit to be desired, it was still fun and we've all said we'd go back every once in a while for breakfast. As with diners like this in the U.S., the best part of the establishment was, of course, the decor! To see a few color photos of this quirky little slice of Americana in Switzerland, go here.
