Our friends, Jason and Everett, adopted a new kitten in their lives -- a Bengal named Lindan. We asked if we could shoot a few photos as Maya wants to include animals in her photography portfolio. A couple of shots here and more to be seen here.

The Maddix-Peachey's also have an African Grey Parrot named Olive. I took a few snaps of her, too.

Baby Shower!

Friend Jane's daughter-in-law, Lindsey, is due to have a baby in a few months. Jane threw her a baby shower and I snapped a few pictures. These aren't that great because the light was incredibly low, but it was a fun evening seeing friends, catching up, and celebrating with Lindsey.

The Garage

Last night, we got together with a large group of friends, including my friends JaneAnne and David who drove up from from Portland, at The Garage. It's a nice pool hall and bowling alley that also serves food. We enjoyed burgers, beverages, and great conversation! Thanks to everyone who came out and said hi. It was nice seeing y'all!

Caffrey's First Snowshoeing Adventure

...and mine, too. Erik and Christy invited us to go snowshoeing with them the last weekend friend Irene was in town. This was Caffrey's first time out and we all had a blast! I think I've found a winter activity I could enjoy.

We Gather Together...

 We Gather Together... : Thanksgiving in France : Ferney-Voltaire, FR

Last night, my boss hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for nine American expats and 21 people of other nationalities. We had folks from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, Russia, and the United Kingdom. The food was fabulous, but the company was the best part. We enjoyed the six culinary elements of Thanksgiving: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie, as well as offerings from around the world. It was an international smorgasbord and it was wonderful!

5 months

Caffrey and Christy : Geneva, CH

Some of you may recall pictures a few months ago of friends Erik and Christy and their new puppy, Caffrey. At the time, Caffrey was about seven weeks old. Now, he's five months old and Christy doesn't pick him up to cuddle on her shoulder like she did in the first picture I posted of them here.

"Puppy" is a loose term here...

Caffrey visited the vet a couple of days ago and weighed in at nearly 28 kilos. That's nearly 60 lbs! The term "puppy" is used loosely with this sweet, docile dog.

Raclette au le Refuge de Florimont

Maya's friend Rachel has been in town and the other night we took her for the cheesy, gooey goodness that is raclette. This is definitely one of those not-good-for-you, but oh-so-good alpine dishes that is great on a cold, stormy evening. We had the perfect, yucky weather for just such a meal. Based on the recommendation of a friend, we went to Le Refuge de Florimont, which is half way between the towns of Gex and Col de la Faucille on the side of the Jura mountains.

Cornichon and smoked meats, along with steamed potatoes, 

are served with raclette : Gex, FR

We also shared a Gexiflette--a variation on the region dish tartiflette. This particular 'flette feature bleu du Gex--a local blue cheese. Think scalloped potatoes on steroids and without the bechamel sauce. Also very unhealthy, but very yummy.

Tuckered Out...

Bookending the pillow, these dogs are tuckered out and ready for bed! : Basel, CH

Spent a lovely weekend in Basel with friends Scott and Diana. Right before bed, I noticed their dogs, Gibby and Dee Dee were passed out on the couch and bookending a pillow. It cracked me up, so I grabbed my camera and stole a shot.

A Menagerie

In addition to the hotel and restaurant, Krissy and her husband, are the proud parents of four miniature horse, one onerous donkey, a dog, and a cat. Hotel Kistenpass and Restaurant

Hotel Kistenpass and Restaurant : Brigels, CH

As mentioned earlier, my friend Krissy T. and her husband, Lorenz D. own and operate a hotel and restaurant at the entrance of the village of Brigels in the Surselva Valley in Canton Graubünden. The Hotel Kistenpass is rated as a three-star hotel by the Swiss Hotel Association. To see a few shots of the food to be had at this lovely hotel and restaurant, visit my Picasa Web Albums. A note about that: Krissy was kind enough to set up a table in the kitchen where we could observe preparations and interact with the cook, Rocco. It was a lot of fun!

Two Things Challenge: Cause / Effect

Cause : Climbing to the top of the Sacre Coeur

Next week's Two Things Challenge is Cause / Effect. (This week's is Star / Appeal, but I already posted for that last Sunday.) I had the perfect (I think) pictures for this and couldn't wait to post them next Sunday.

One of the highlights of our weekend in Paris was meeting up with friend and fellow blogger, Virginia of Birmingham Daily Photo and Paris Through My Eyes. Paris blogger Peter also joined us and showed us around Montmartre. We all pressured Virginia into climbing to the top of the Sacre Coeur--something she'd done on a previous trip by accident. The experience was a lot of huffing and puffing up narrow, claustrophobia-inducing staircases, but the result was a lot of laughter with friends (and good views.)
